Clough proud of battlers
NIGEL CLOUGH was a proud and relieved Burton Albion manager as he watched his side move to within a point of Championship safety.
A tense goalless game burst to life inside the last quarter of an hour as Marvin Sordell struck after 75 minutes with a superb finish to beat Rob Green and two minutes later the striker turned provider for on-loan winger Michael Kightly to double their lead.
Leeds hit back through skipper Kyle Bartley just three minutes later to set up a nervy finish but the Burton boss knew the importance of the result for his side. ‘To win the game with all the nervous tension around the place, speaks volumes for the character of the players,’ Clough said.
Leeds head coach Garry Monk was frustrated. ‘We are disappointed,’ he said. ‘I think it is an unfair result on my players.’
