United have now earned £1BILLION in prize money

-

MANCHESTER United will this week become the first club to break the £1billion barrier in prize money from the Premier League.

The revamped top division concludes a 25th season today and United’s 20 English titles include 13 in the Premier League era.

By the end of last season, United had collected £870.3m in prize payments. They are expected to collect about £144m this season — for finishing in sixth place — to take their total to £1.014bn. As our table of all-time payments shows, United are alone in the ‘billion club’ — for now. But Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are all within a few tens of millions and are set to join next year, as will Spurs and Manchester City. Total prize payments over 25 years, including parachute payments, are now £17.5bn.
