TONE YOUR LEGS WHILE BRUSHING YOUR TEETH

- By Mariam Al-Roubi PERSONAL TRAINER

WE’RE advised to spend two minutes brushing our teeth. Why not use that time to give your legs a quick hone and tone, too? This calf-raise and squat combination exercise, to be done two or three times a week, is actually quite a challenge. Make sure when you perform squats you follow these tips to avoid damaging knees or back: 1. Keep hips back. 2. Knees mustn’t pass your toe line. 3. Keep your chest up, look ahead. 4. Keep shoulders back and down.

HOW TO DO IT

Start by sitting (place a weighted object such as a hardback book on your thighs/knees if you feel it’s too easy). First, raise both heels, transferring weight on to the balls of the feet. Next, raise one heel with the other foot resting. Then raise the other heel, resting the worked foot. After that, stand and perform squats for the 30 seconds. After a few days, do the calf raises while standing. You will be rising on the balls of your feet, locking your knees and pulling up through your thighs. Repeat the same combination on both legs, then each leg on its own, then squats. Remember to stretch afterwards.
