Masters glory was a false dawn
WINNING the US Masters last year was supposed to turn Danny Willett into a leading force in world golf. But it’s had completely the opposite effect. After his Augusta triumph he bombed at the other majors, finishing a lowly 37th at the US Open, 53rd at the Open and a dismal 79th at the USPGA. This year it’s been even worse for Willett. He shot seven over in his Masters defence to miss the cut, suffered a first-round exit in the World Matchplay and failed to break par in four rounds at the BMW PGA at Wentworth.
