My moment of rejection: I was scurrying around the perimeter of Old Trafford cricket ground after a day’s play at an Ashes Test in the Eighties, trying to position myself so I could get my autograph book under Dennis Lillee’s (left) nose as he walked back to his car surrounded by fans. I finally got in prime position and then promptly trod on Lillee’s foot. He shot me a filthy glare. I knew straight away all hope was lost.
