CHARLOTTE GRIFFITHS’ IRRESISTIBLE SOCIAL DIARY

IF only Cara Delevingne would put as much effort into her new career as a novelist as she puts into her partying. The supermodel’s coming-of-age story Mirror Mirror has only shifted 4,357 copies since its release on October 5. Publisher Orion said it was ‘not able to divulge’ the sales information but I’m told the firm has been unimpressed by her efforts to promote it. Although Cara, left, signed copies of the novel at Waterstones in Piccadilly, she missed two other launch events. I can’t imagine that ghostwriter Rowan Coleman is impressed. Says a source: ‘The celebrity doesn’t have to do anything but show up and scribble a few signatures in the sleeve. Cara hasn’t even managed that.’ JEREMY Clarkson’s protege Florence Walker is a dead ringer for Eddie Redmayne, as my snap, left, shows. But imagine the Oscar winner’s horror when they met recently and he discovered they have the same mannerisms, too. ‘We shook hands and he did a double take,’ Florence, 29, said at the Trafalgar St James hotel launch. ‘We share a gangly awkwardness.’ Florence – known to pals as Floxxie – works on Clarkson’s new petrolhead media site DriveTribe and he is bankrolling her £35,000 race-car lessons. Perhaps she should try acting next…

WHEN Lord Sugar told Apprentice contestant Elliot van Emden ‘You’re fired!’ last week, it must have sounded familiar. A source tells me Elliot has been sacked before… by David Cameron. He claims he worked ‘closely’ with Cameron in the then Opposition leader’s correspondence unit, but I hear he was let go after a matter of weeks. ‘He wasn’t doing the work he was meant to but was putting himself around like he was the director of communications,’ says my source. Elliot hit back: ‘I worked there from September 2007 to March 2008 before choosing to leave.’ I FEAR that James Corden’s friendship with Edie Campbell is in ruins after the model publicly accused him of taking ‘scissors to his career’ by making jokes about Harvey Weinstein. The ‘scissors’ reference comes after the pair teamed up fora hair dressingthe med shoot for this month’ s Vogue magazine. But after James poked fun at the disgraced mogul at a Hollywood awards bash last week, furious Edie accused the chat show host of making light of violence against women. Sorry James, but I don’t think Edie is the only celebrity who won’t be sending you a card this Christmas.
