- By Ned Donovan

HE ALREADY owns a £3.6 million property i n Notting Hill, a £1.5 million Cotswolds cottage with a £25,000 ‘shepherd’s hut’ in the garden, and now former Prime Minister David Cameron has splashed out on a £2 million holiday home in Cornwall.

Keen surfer Cameron, 51, has bought a clifftop house overlooking the sea. Neighbours to the ‘massive’ property are said to include chef Gordon Ramsay.

Since leaving office in June last year, Cameron has been working on his memoirs, bought by an imprint of HarperCollins for a £1 million advance. To make the purchase, it is understood that the ex-Premier has had to take out a substantial mortgage.

Mr Cameron and wife Samantha, 46, bought their Notting Hill pad for £1.1 million in 2006.

The couple and their three children weekend at a cottage near Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, in his former Witney constituency which they bought for £650,000 in 2001. Earlier this year it emerged he spent £ 25,000 on a luxury ‘shepherd’s hut’ for the garden.

News of his latest acquisition comes only days after Mr Cameron was controversially tipped to take a job with a £500 million British- China business fund after visiting Beijing to lobby finance ministers.

The rumours raised fresh questions about lobbying rules for former senior politicians when it was revealed the ex-PM travelled to China on behalf of his friend and former donor Lord Chadlington, who is backing the fund.

A spokesman for Mr Cameron told The Sun: ‘David has always loved spending time in Cornwall and has dreamt of having his own place there.’
