ACTIVIST GAVE DEPUTY PM AN ‘X’... DESPITE HAND-ON-KNEE COMPLAINT
EARLY 2015 Kate Maltby meets Damian Green in a bar in Waterloo. She later claims to have felt ‘a fleeting hand against my knee’. MAY 2016 Maltby appears in a newspaper dressed in a corset; Green texts her: ‘Having admired you in a corset.... I feel impelled to ask if you are free for a drink any time?’
SEPTEMBER 2016 Maltby says at this point she met one of Theresa May’s No 10 aides and told him about Green. After the scandal breaks, she claims the aide told her it was part of a pattern of behaviour and that ‘the Prime Minister knows’. FEBRUARY 2017 Maltby messages Green to ‘wager a good few
bottles’ that he was the source of a political story: ‘Hope to catch up when things calm down.’
Green responds: ‘They fix a date never soon.’ do so let’s She concludes the exchange by saying: ‘Great. Night night.’ JULY 13, 2017 Maltby texts Green at 11pm after attending The Spectator magazine’s summer party: ‘Sorry not to see you at the Speccie party. [Names a Green official] was smooching the room on your behalf x’. Green responds: ‘That’s what he’s paid for!’
JULY 20 Maltby responds to news that Green sits on a total of 19 Cabinet committees by writing: ‘Deeply disappointed to see there are two Cabinet committees you don’t have a seat on. Lax, Mr Green!’
OCTOBER 4 Maltby messages Green to wish him luck on the BBC’s Question Time ‘tonight’. Green points out that the programme is actually recorded the following day, prompting Maltby to write: ‘Speaking of time travel, I recently found the old school magazines. Hope this cheers you up.’ Maltby had interviewed Green for her school magazine when she was 16.
OCTOBER 31 Maltby writes an article for The Times in which she says the ‘fleeting’ knee touch and corset text message left her feeling ‘angry’, as well as ‘awkward, embarrassed and professionally compromised’.
