Out of order! Customers’ fury as Ocado fails to deliver crucial items

- By Simon Murphy and Ben Ellery

OCADO customers have been left fuming after finding their Christmas orders are missing crucial items – or have failed to turn up at all.

The online supermarket, which delivers Waitrose products and its own brand goods, was last night deluged with complaints.

Ocado charges shoppers a premium Christmas delivery fee of £9.99. But customers have complained they face a last-minute dash to the shops – despite many placing their orders weeks in advance.

Some customers have complained of food expiring on the same day it was delivered and of being given bizarre substitution items – one woman received rice pudding instead of custard. Others complained their orders did not arrive at all.

One shopper wrote on Ocado’s Facebook page yesterday: ‘Booked Xmas food shop at Ocado a week ago, felt smug. Today, six hours before delivery is due, they tell me no organic chicken (main item!), no Xmas crackers, no nuts, no red cabbage! Will not do Xmas shop with them again.’

Others complained on Twitter that the firm had failed to deliver their turkeys. One wrote: ‘When you get a call from Ocado to say they will not deliver your turkey, ham and everything else for your Christmas dinner 15 mins into your allocated delivery time,’ adding the ironic hashtag #happyChristmas.’

Ocado said: ‘We are very sorry that some customers have not received items they ordered. We intend to compensate those who have not received the highest level of service.’
