Why take the risk of implants?

-

It’s so sad that women put themselves through agony because of the pressures they feel they are under to look attractive. Former S Club 7 singer Hannah Spearritt did just that, as you revealed last week with the article headlined ‘My breast implants nearly destroyed my life’. I know Hannah (left) coveted perfect boobs but with cosmetic surgery you take such a huge risk. And if it goes wrong, there’s little chance you’ll get to revert to what you had in the first place, which was probably fine. And then there is the problem of how the implants will look when you get older. I think women look far better when they grow old gracefully. Look at Meryl Streep or Helen Mirren. V. de Bheal, London ‘Is that all that you’ve got?’ was the question asked in the Beautiful South song 36D. And that’s a question that should be asked of any woman who wants a boob augmentation.

Women, as well as men, have loads of both physical and non-physical attributes. To focus on just one, and to dangerously manipulate it, is selling yourself short. I find it difficult to comprehend why an attractive woman would bother having toxic foreign bodies inserted into herself. There are just so many potential downsides.

But then I’m not walking in Hannah’s stilettos, and at the time the implants seemed very important to her. It’s a sad reflection on society that so many women think the same. J. Benn, London
