You’re never too old for a pair of trainers
A NEW, bizarre fitness craze had me chuckling this week: yoga speed-dating. The hour-long class at a Birmingham health centre features yoga fans doing exercises in pairs, and switching partners after a few movements.
Classmates are then encouraged to stick around for post-class drinks. It might seem like a weird concept but exercise sessions have long been used as a mood-boosting social event. In theory, it’s the perfect environment to develop a close relationship. Many couples are drawn together by a shared love of exercise and find happiness in active experiences.
A sweaty yoga studio might not seem the most romantic setting, but with all those endorphins flying around, there’s every chance of finding someone to spark with. IT IS impossible to watch the floods of runners power across the finish line at the London Marathon and not feel a warm, fuzzy glow.
The achievement of completing a 26-mile, 385-yard run is not to be underestimated; it really is a mammoth distance.
If the marathon has left you feeling inspired but 26 miles is a bit much for you, don’t fret – there are plenty of other options for avid runners.
Perhaps try a local 5K or 10K run. They require less training so you may be able to manage more than just one annually, so maintaining your fitness level throughout the year.
And if you’re thinking ‘I’m too old’, stop immediately – there is no such thing.
Age is no barrier, but lack of conditioning is.
However, the body can be trained to acclimatise to intense exercise within a matter of months, and once it is conditioned this way, anything is possible.
So – if not now, when?
