Where’s our handsome pirate? Fan fears for pale and gaunt Johnny
PALE and gaunt, he is a shadow of the swaggering swashbuckling pirate the world fell in love with.
This new picture of Pirates Of The Caribbean star Johnny Depp sparked fears for his health this week after he posed with fans in Russia where he is touring with his band The Hollywood Vampires.
Fans took to social media saying the 54-year-old was ‘barely recognisable’, while another concerned woman wrote: ‘I think that my hero looks ill.’
One Twitter user remarked: ‘F*** me, is that Johnny Depp?’ Depp has long struggled with addiction issues. During his acrimonious 2016 divorce from his third wife, actress Amber Heard, she filed court papers accusing him of beating her up during drink and drug-fuelled rages. ‘He is an alcoholic and drug addict… who has relapsed into a cycle of substance abuse,’ she claimed. Depp has been candid about his struggles in the past, telling Rolling Stone magazine: ‘I’m a dumb a** and I poisoned myself for years. I was poisoning myself with alcohol and medicating myself. I was trying not to feel things and that’s ridiculous.’
Depp is currently on a world tour with his band which includes rock legends Alice Cooper and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry. He will return to the big screen later this year as he reprises the role of Grindelwald in Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald.
Some fans suggested the weight loss could be for a new film, Richard Says Goodbye, in which Depp plays a terminally-ill professor but that was shot last summer.
