Pushy Posh decides: My boy will be a tennis ace!

-

WITH the grass season in full swing, one unlikely star has caught tennis fever: Victoria Beckham.

The former Spice Girl has just applied to have an artificial grass court built in the grounds of her family’ s Oxfordshire country pile for her 15-year-old son Romeo, whom she is determined to make ‘the David Beckham of the tennis world’.

As always when it comes to the Beckham brood, no expense has been spared on this latest fad. The new court is expected to cost around £30,000 and has been designed by landscape designer Marcus Barnett, winner of three Chelsea Flower Show gold medals. Plans were submitted last month by Soho House archi- tect Michael Ergatoudis, who designed the Beckhams’ £6 million mansion in Great Tew.

Says my source :‘ The Oxfordshire property has al ways been David’s pet project, Victoria has shown very little interest and been quite resistant about having it at all in the past. But now she sees it as a great place for Romeo to spend the summer holiday playing tennis. She wants him practising as much as possible and will hire in coaches to train him. David is on board with the plan to make Romeo a star, but it is Victoria who is the driving force.’

Sources say Pushy Posh has also mooted the idea of sending him to one of the prestigious summer tennis camps in Miami where David is living part-time.

When in London, Romeo plays at the elite Queen’s tennis club. I revealed last year that Posh forked out £12,000 to have him bypass its famously long waiting list.

Last week he played with British No 2 Kyle Edmund there, and he’s also posted pictures of himself with other tennis stars including women’s No 1 Simona Halep and No 2 Caroline Wozniacki online.
