A serious dose of cabin fervour
Heartwood luxury treehouse Llangyniew, Powys, Wales
NIT-PICKERS might argue that Heartwood isn’t really a treehouse, but a luxurious wood cabin on stilts.
Well, it certainly sits among oaks and ashes which have been incorporated into the design, and surely it’s good that no branches were hurt in the construction of this wonderfully romantic holiday home for two.
In fact, it’s really a work of art, and undoubtedly the star of a new adults-only glamping site, Oaklands Glamping & Treehouse. Pets aren’t allowed either (and there’s no smoking for obvious reasons).
Oaklands is tucked away in the hamlet of Llangyniew, just off the A458 and eight miles from Welshpool in Mid-Wales.
Owners Abigail and Shaphan Davies have put their hearts into creating a very special retreat – snap it up now for Valentine’s Day.
As if the gorgeous accommodation wasn’t enough, the south-facing view from Heartwood’s huge terrace is spectacular, over miles of countryside and the river Banwy, all the way to Tory politician William Hague’s £2.5 million country house, Cyfronydd Hall.
Look out for Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway’s narrow gauge steam train puffing across the landscape, too. Take your binoculars to see red kites, buzzards and nuthatches.
The Place: Oaklands offers the treehouse, Heartwood, and two HIGH LIFE: Inside the treehouse, left, and Wendy, above, settles into the trendy ‘Luv Tub’ large neighbouring safari tents, Bluebell and Foxglove, on the site.
The accommodation:
Heartwood’s many wow factors include a grand staircase which is lit up at night, the outdoor woodfired ‘Luv Tub’ hot tub for two; a barbecue; a firepit to snuggle up beside after dark, and the terrace with breakfast table and views.
There’s a big open kitchen/dining room/lounge, with a TV and log burner. The bedroom has a Hypnos double bed and freestanding bath by a picture window. Heartwood is available all year except Christmas and New Year. The whole site sleeps ten.
The food: A welcome hamper includes prosecco, snacks and treats and there are basic provisions in the kitchen. There’s an Aldi in Welshpool, or buy provisions from the on-site honesty larder. The local pub is a five-minute walk away.
