It’s Liz Hurley and the most important man in her life

- By Valerie Elliott

HE HAS inherited his mother’s striking looks – and Liz Hurley’s son Damian is intent on following her into acting, too.

The 16-year-old has already appeared alongside his mother in the high-camp US soap opera The Royals, and now has his sights on a full-time career in front of the camera.

Speaking exclusively to The Mail on Sunday’s You magazine today, Liz says of Damian’s first TV role: ‘I was amazed by just how good he was.’

It is the first interview the 53-year-old actress has given with her son, and their closeness is obvious. ‘Because he’s away [at boarding school] all week I’m probably overindulgent when he’s around to make up for it,’ she admits. ‘Given I’m a single mother and he’s an only child, by default we spend a lot of time together and are utterly comfortable in each other’s company. We’ve got each other’s backs, always.’

And Damian seems to agree. ‘Friends come and go, but family is for ever,’ he says.

But Liz rails at stories that Damian follows her around the world taking alluring pic-

‘Nonsense to say he follows me round taking bikini snaps’

tures of her in her swimsuit. ‘It’s just complete nonsense that somebody made up,’ she says. ‘He took one or two shots and that was it. He’s at boarding school, for heaven’s sake. I can assure you I don’t drag him to Mauritius every weekend to take my picture.’

Although Liz initially kept her son away from showbusiness, she is delighted about his decision to follow in her footsteps. ‘I took off the first eight years of his life from acting so I could be at home with Damian, but it transpires that being on set is where he’s happiest,’ she says.

Damian fondly recalls eventually being allowed on shoots when he was younger. ‘I knew all the actors’ lines and would hide behind furniture and prompt them,’ he says. ‘When my mother first went back to work and did a season of Gossip Girl in New York, the director used to let me shout “Action!”’
