- By Peter Henn

A KEEN footballer has been stabbed to death on an East London street on his 23rd birthday.

Moses Mayele was found dead just 200 yards from his home in Hainault by paramedics on Friday night.

A 22-year-old man with him who had also suffered knife wounds was taken to hospital where he remained in a critical condition last night.

Friends and relatives of Mr Mayele were last night too upset to comment, but floral tributes were left at the cordoned-off stretch of road where he died.

One friend wrote on Instagram: ‘Words can’t even describe the pain and hurt we are all going through right now.

‘You was a brother, a son, an uncle and so much more to everyone who knew you and loved you.’

According to an online profile, Mr Mayele played football for a team called Watford Impact.

There was further violence across Britain this weekend. In Dudley, West Midlands, a man in his 20s was stabbed to death in a car park in the early hours yesterday.

Three men, aged 30, 27 and 25, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

On Friday evening in Hackney, North-East London, a man was shot by a gunman on a moped as he walked along a residential road.

The victim was taken to hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Also on Friday night, police caught a passenger on the London Underground with a loaded crossbow. The 25-year-old man was detained by British Transport Police after staff at High Street Kensington station raised the alarm.
