PROBLEMS JONES MUST SOLVE

-

EDDIE JONES names his squad on Thursday for the autumn internationals and a clash against World No 1 team the All Blacks... NIK SIMON goes over a few of Jones’ selection headaches:

WHO WILL BE No10?

There is no doubt Owen Farrell (right) is England’s best fly-half. Leaving potential matchwinner Danny Cipriani out of the squad is madness while George Ford is also an option.

WHAT IF BILLY GETS INJURED (AGAIN)?

No Billy Vunipola, no World Cup. Sam Simmonds is doubtful to be fit for Japan so is it time for Don Armand or Zach Mercer?

SHOULD HARTLEY BE CAPTAIN AGAIN?

The captain should be a player guaranteed to start at the World Cup. Is Hartley? Far from it and Jamie George has been superb for Saracens. Farrell should be captain, but it will be no surprise if Eddie Jones goes back to his man Hartley (below) at hooker.

ANY NEW FACES AGAINST THE ALL BLACKS?

Yes. Look out for Joe Cokanasiga and Chris Ashton on the wings. With Joe Marler retiring, it is time for a new loose-head to step forward, with Ben Moon and Val RapavaRuskin both in contention.
