Baxter's late regret Dan's comeback kings

- By By

ROB BAXTER reckoned Exeter missed an opportunity to sneak victory at the death as they held Munster to an epic draw.

The Chiefs had a shot to win a stormy game played in a howling gale right at the death — but after 22 phases Jack Yeandle knocked on and the match finished all square.

Munster were 10-3 down at half-time, as a result of Luke Cowan-Dickie’s try and Gareth Steenson’s kicking.

But in the second half the Irish side scored through CJ Stander, levelled with Joey Carbery’s kicks, and looked most likely to nick the win.

Asked whether he felt Exeter had dropped or gained two points, Exeter boss Baxter said: ‘I am not sure. You look at the last couple of minutes and you probably feel there was a missed opportunity there.

‘Did we grab the game by the scruff of the neck in first 25 minutes? Probably not. Has that cost us? Potentially.’ SECOND-HALF tries from Alan O’Connor, Will Addison and Jacob Stockdale earned Ulster a 24-10 win over Leicester in their Heineken Champions Cup opener.

Ulster’s John Cooney kicked all three conversions and a penalty to complete the Irish province’s scoring at Kingspan Stadium in Belfast.

The Tigers led at half-time thanks to a George Ford penalty but failed to score again until Manu Tuilagi’s 75th-minute converted try.

Three minutes after the restart, Ulster took the lead from O’Connor’s try and in the 58th minute Addison touched down in the corner. Cooney’s excellent conversion made it 14-3.

Dan McFarland’s men got their third try with seven minutes left when Stockdale roared over following an attack off a lineout.

Cooney’s conversion took the lead to 24-3 but the Tigers then grabbed a late score off Tuilagi, which Ford then converted.
