RUB BABY OIL INTO YOUR SINK . . . AND OTHER TOP TIPS

-

SCUFF MARKS

If you have scuff marks on walls where you’ve hit them with a bag as you’ve gone past, get a new tennis ball and rub them gently – the static generated by the ball helps get rid of them.

WASHING MACHINES

Put a dishwasher tablet in the washing machine drum and put it on a short hot wash to give it a freshen-up and a really good clean.

SKIRTING BOARDS

Wash skirting boards and woodwork (doors, frames etc) with a mix of fabric softener and water. It makes the house smell divine and works a treat at removing scuffs without wrecking the paint.

LIMESCALE

Denture tablets are amazing for getting rid of limescale in the loo. Ideally, you’d bail out half the water in the pan so you get a more concentrated mixture, put the tablet in overnight and it should be clean by the following morning.

STAINLESS STEEL

For shining stainless steel, put a drop of baby oil on kitchen paper, then rub it along the grain of the steel. Flip over to the dry side of the paper to finish off the polishing and leave a streak-free shine.

SMELLY SHOES

Dry hair shampoo is a brilliant shoe deodoriser. Spray it in and leave overnight, then tap out remaining powder in the morning, or vacuum it out.

DUSTING

Damp dusting is better as the dust collects on the cloth rather than being spread around. Fill a 500ml spray bottle with a cup of fabric softener and the rest water, apply to a duster and it picks up all the dust and leaves the house smelling lush.

GREASE STAINS

Rub a cut lemon over a grease stain before washing – the acid helps it come out.
