RONAN CURTIS scored his eighth goal of the season to help leaders Portsmouth beat promotion rivals Sunderland at a sold-out Fratton Park. Gareth Evans put the hosts ahead from the spot after Glenn Loovens was sent off for bringing down Oli Hawkins. Ben Thompson was also on target, with Luke O’Nien replying for Sunderland.

LUTON made it six league wins in a row with a comfortabl­e victory over League Cup semifinali­sts Burton. Jack Stacey opened the scoring and James Collins added one from the spot.

BLACKPOOL 0 BARNSLEY 1

CAMERON MCGEEHAN’S goal ended a winless December for Barnsley and consigned Blackpool to back-to-back league defeats. Barnsley manager Daniel Stendel said: ‘I hope we can give a present to our supporters.’

SOUTHEND 1 ROCHDALE 2

CALLUM CAMPS’ late header gave Rochdale victory. Jordan Williams had put them ahead before John White levelled for Southend. Boss Chris Powell called it ‘a dagger to the heart’.

BRADFORD 2 SCUNTHORPE 0

BRADFORD moved out of the bottom four and Scunthorpe dropped into it thanks to a goal from Jack Payne and Eoin Doyle’s penalty. Stuart McCall’s return to Valley Parade was complete when Cameron Burgess was sent off.

SHREWSBURY 1 COVENTRY 0

AARON Amadi-Holloway got the only goal as Shrewsbury won for the first time under manager Sam Ricketts. who said: ‘I loved it, and what I loved most was the performanc­e.’

BRISTOL R 2 FLEETWOOD 1

JAMES CLARKE hit an injury-time winner to give Graham Coughlan his first points as Bristol Rovers caretaker boss. Gavin Reilly was also on target after Ashley Hunter scored for Fleetwood, who had Ched Evans sent off.

PLYMOUTH 0 ACCRINGTON 3

ACCRINGTON ended a fourgame losing streak in emphatic fashion at struggling Plymouth thanks to goals from Sam Finley, Sean McConville and Jordan Clark.

CHARLTON 2 GILLINGHAM 0

BEN REEVES and Tariqe Fosu got the goals for promotion hopefuls Charlton, but manager Lee Bowyer was still far from happy. He said: ‘I would probably say that is the worst we’ve played for a while. We were scrappy at times.’

PETERBOROU­GH 1 WALSALL 1

PETERBOROU­GH keeper Conor O’Malley went from villain to hero as he conceded and then saved a penalty from Luke Leahy. Ivan Toney and Walsall’s Isiah Osbourne got the goals.

DONCASTER 2 OXFORD 2

JOSH RUFFELS grabbed a point for Oxford seven minutes into stoppage-time. Ben Whiteman, from the spot, and Alfie May, in the 90th minute, had scored for in-form Doncaster, with Gavin Whyte replying in between.

WIMBLEDON remain bottom despite inflicting Wycombe’s first home defeat sicne September. Kwesi Appiah and Jake Jervis got their goals, with Fred Onyedinma replying.
