LUKE PROSSER’S goal saw Colchester inflict a first home league defeat of the season on MK Dons, whose manager Paul Tisdale admitted: ‘They did a very good job on us and there is very little for me to complain about. Their goal was incredibly well-worked.’

LINCOLN 3 NEWPORT 2

LINCOLN ensured they will be top at Christmas with a hard-fought win. John Akinde and Harry Anderson put them 2-0 up inside seven minutes and Tom Pett got their third, in between two from Padraig Amond for Newport.

YEOVIL 1 NORTHAMPTO­N 1

A SPECTACULA­R 40-yard volley from Yoann Arquin a minute from time rescued a point for Yeovil, a minute after sub Andy Williams thought he had won it for Northampto­n.

BURY 2 TRANMERE 1

NICKY MAYNARD’S ninth goal of the season helped Bury beat fellow promotion hopefuls Tranmere. Caolan Lavery added a second in injury-time and there was still time for Tranmere sub Ritchie Sutton to pull one back.

SWINDON 0 CHELTENHAM 0

CHELTENHAM boss Michael Duff felt his side deserved to win after a stalemate at Swindon. He said: ‘I thought we were the better team. They didn’t create a lot.’

CRAWLEY 2 CARLISLE 3

CARLISLE followed up their 4-0 home win over Colchester with a deserved victory at Crawley. Jerry Yates, Danny Grainger, from the spot, and Jack Sowerby got their goals, with Dominic Poleon scoring twice for the home side.

STEVENAGE 1 MANSFIELD 3

TYLER WALKER was Mansfield’s match-winner with a fine second-half double. Danny Newton had put Stevenage in front before Ryan Sweeney equalised.

FOREST GREEN 1 CREWE 0

FOREST GREEN boss Mark Cooper turned on his own fans despite victory. He said: ‘We can’t even raise a song to give these boys backing, who are trying their absolute socks off.’ Joseph Mills got the only goal.

OLDHAM 2 EXETER 3

JAYDEN STOCKLEY’S clinical hat-trick gave Exeter victory in an action-packed clash. Sam Surridge and Callum Lang scored for Oldham, who were denied a late penalty shout.

GRIMSBY 4 NOTTS CO 0

Grimsby continued their superb run of form at Blundell Park with a comprehens­ive win over strugglers Notts County. Harry Clifton opened the scoring before Harry Davis grabbed two and Wes Thomas wrapped it up.

COLIN CALDERWOOD’S first game in charge of Cambridge ended in defeat as goals from Vadaine Oliver, Andrew Tutte and Kevin Ellison gave Morecambe a vital win.
