As new series looms, Line Of Duty’s Vicky lets slip some tantalising clues

- By Padraic Flanagan

DETAILS about the hotly awaited new series of Line Of Duty are being kept as closely guarded as the undercover investigations by the heroes of the BBC thriller.

But star Vicky McClure – who plays detective Kate Fleming – today reveals some teasing clues as to what viewers can expect when the drama returns for a fifth series in the spring.

In an interview with The Mail on Sunday’s You magazine, she confirms that the sinister ‘Balaclava Man’ – responsible for much of the mayhem over the past four series – will return.

There will also be more about Fleming’s family life, which Vicky, 35, says she was really keen to do ‘because I find it interesting… to see behind the scenes of work’.

Viewers know little about the character’s home life except that Fleming is estranged from her partner, and that her son lives with his father.

Vicky, pictured right in her You magazine photoshoot, also reveals a little of her own private life in the interview.

She tells of how her fiance, actor Jonny Owen, bought her engagement ring but left it in the pub after he met friends for a drink. Luckily he managed to retrieve it.

Vicky first made her mark as an actress in the acclaimed film and TV series This Is England, for which she won a Best Actress Bafta.

But despite being in the public eye, she has resisted the temptation of having cosmetic procedures. Asked if she has ever had Botox, she replies: ‘God, no. Don’t put a needle near my face. I can barely have my blood taken.

‘I prefer people’s faces to look like human faces… where you can see where they’ve been. Rather than somebody who literally looks as though they are frightened as they can’t move because of it.’
