Moore sacked by Albion after run of poor results

-

DARREN MOORE has been sacked as manager of West Bromwich Albion following a disappointing draw to bottom side Ipswich Town.

The promotion hopefuls made their decision after a series of under-par performances that has provoked an angry reaction from fans frustrated at their expensive squad’s inability to make a greater impression on the title race.

Moore changed his tactics for the game but his team seemed bewildered.

He was sacked two hours after the draw which counterpart Paul Lambert contested his side should have won.

Assistant Graeme Jones, who has been a target for Luton Town, and coach Wayne Jacobs were also relieved of their duties.

Jon Nolan’s second-half equaliser earned the bottom side a point but they had been staring down the barrel of defeat after on-loan Fulham midfielder Stefan Johansen had given Albion a fourth-minute lead with a deflected free-kick.

Nolan headed home in the 48th minute to rescue a point and deal a fresh blow to Albion’s automatic promotion hopes.

Moore said afterwards: ‘We just couldn’t get the all important second goal. Their keeper played well and pulled off some good saves.’

It was Ipswich’s fourth 1-1 draw in their last five games and, while they look to be headed for relegation, manager Paul Lambert was delighted with his side’s display. ‘We have some really good young players and we don’t look like a team at the bottom that’s for sure,’ he said.
