Mo Eisa was also on target and there were two for Marcus Maddison, including a stunning 35-yard lob. Manager Darren Ferguson said: ‘It was very satisfying, as pleased as I have been. Not just because of the result but in terms of the discipline and the performanc­e. I thought it was really mature. We were ruthless, clinical.’

SUNDERLAND returned to winning ways with a comfortabl­e victory. Jordan Clark put the home side ahead, but Sunderland hit back through Lynden Gooch, Aiden McGeady and Marc McNulty, all in the first half.
