Josh gets defensive over slur

WALES’ try-scoring sensation Josh Adams warned France that the men in red are not the one-dimensional side Les Bleus think they are.

His opposite number in the World Cup quarter-final today, Yoann Huget, said Wales had played the same way since 2011 and rely on a defensive game.

‘We’ve known Wales’s game for eight years,’ Huget said. ‘Wales have this ability to put their opponents under pressure, to wait for their opponent to make a mistake so they can score. Aside from that, their kicking game doesn’t bother me. We’re ready for everything.’

But Adams — who has scored five tries in this tournament — said: ‘Everyone’s got an opinion. Maybe in the past we’ve kept games a little closer and kicked a little bit more, but that’s dependent on the game plan and how we look at the opposition.

‘I definitely think in the last four games we’ve moved the ball quite well and have scored some good tries, actually. It’s another string to our bow.

‘We not only can grind teams down with the pack we’ve got, dominate aerially with the kicking game, we can also move the ball around and use our threats in the backs. It’s nice to keep teams guessing sometimes.’

The winger, 24, is aware how high the stakes are. ‘It’s slowly building,’ he said. ‘There’s been an edge to us this week, a bit of spike in training, as the forwards can vouch for. There’s been a good mood and none of us are ready to go home.’

Adams is comfortable with the favourites label, saying: ‘They said we were favourites for the Australia game and it’s a tag we don’t mind having, we’ve worked hard to earn it.

‘We go about our business, we know what needs to be done.’
