Bogle blunder is a gift for birthday boy Sabri

- By Daniel Matthews

WHEN Sabri Lamouchi celebrated his 48th birthday last night, friends and family would have had a job on their hands. Where could they find a present as beautifully wrapped as this?

How generous of Derby’s Jayden Bogle to gift rivals Nottingham Forest a win that catapults their manager into the most esteemed company.

Early in the second half after Derby played out from the back and Bogle miscued a pass across his own box, Lewis Grabban latched on to it to score the game’s only goal.

Last night the red half of Nottingham toasted a third straight win over their rivals. They will have raised a glass to their manager, too.

Not since 1990 and the days of Brian Clough have Forest enjoyed such supremacy and afterwards Lamouchi hailed a ‘fantastic day and a fantastic result’.

For Phillip Cocu’s Derby, meanwhile, their sorry run in this fixture goes on. That is five straight matches against Forest without a win, and without even a goal.

Defeat yesterday was perhaps harsh on the visitors. It was certainly cruel on Bogle, who had been good until his howler.

Cocu said: ‘It was a difficult moment for Jayden because, of course, he feels he let the team down. But now the job for the team is to support him, pick him up, help him. He has to learn from it… I think this will be on his mind for a few days.’

Tom Lawrence, verbally abused by fans all day for his recent drink-driving shame, came closest to opening the scoring for Derby early on. But his shot, after a fine run from Bogle, was saved by Brice Samba.
