Charity ‘deceives parents’
A TRANSGENDER charity has been accused of exploiting the coronavirus crisis by helping children who look at its website to hide their activities from parents.
The Mermaids charity announced a new feature on its website, saying: ‘Privacy can be tricky with all the family around at the moment, so we gave our new desktop website an Exit Button so you can easily jump to another site if you need to.’
Stephanie Davies-Arai, the founder of Transgender Trend, which has raised concerns about Mermaids, said: ‘No children’s charity should be undermining parents and assisting children to go behind their backs, especially at this time.
‘What advice to children do you need to hide from parents?’
Mermaids was founded by Susie Green, who took her 16-year-old child to Thailand for sexchange surgery that was not legal below the age of 18 in the UK. The charity has received National Lottery funds but courted controversy by lobbying politicians and NHS chiefs to allow children to have fast-track access to hormone-blocking drugs.
A spokesman for Mermaids was unavailable for comment last night.
