Will Smith wife tells him: I slept with our son’s rapper friend
THERE’S never a good moment to tell your husband you’ve had an affair… but on a talk show in front of millions of viewers must rank as one of the worst.
Yet that is precisely where Jada Pinkett Smith chose to confirm that she had been unfaithful to Hollywood megastar Will Smith with a rapper 21 years her junior.
The Men In Black star looked pained as his wife of 23 years came clean about the dalliance with August Alsina, a friend of the couple’s son Jaden. Jada, 48, said the affair was ‘a situation I consider private’ – yet chose to open her heart on a Facebook chat show she co-hosts with her husband.
As of last night, the confession had been viewed 14 million times in just a few hours. On screen, the actress said she hoped to bring ‘healing’ by speaking out after Alsina went public over the years-long fling, claiming it was with Will’s blessing.
On the Red Table Talk show, Jada revealed how the romance started after she met Alsina more than four years ago. She said: ‘It all started with him just needing some help, me wanting to help his health, his mental state… As time went on, I got into a different type of entanglement with August.’
When Smith pushed his 48-yearold wife to clarify what she meant by ‘entanglement’ she responded, ‘It was a relationship, absolutely. I was in a lot of pain, and I was very broken… I just wanted to feel good. It had been so long since I felt good… and it was really a joy to just help heal somebody.’
She said the affair came while their marriage was ‘going through a very difficult time’ and they had effectively broken up.
Will, 51, agreed: ‘I was done with you. We decided that we were going to separate for a period of time. I really felt like we could be over.’
Alsina revealed the affair last month, claiming: ‘I sat down with Will and had a conversation due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership… He gave me his blessing.
‘I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really deeply love and have a ton of love for her.’
Initially the Smiths denied his claims, but this weekend’s emotionally charged exchange revealed the truth – and cleared the air.
Towards the end of the show, Jada told Will they had now reached a place of ‘unconditional love’, adding: ‘I think you got me back!’
