JACK CHARLTON’S death means just five players remain from the England side that beat West Germany 4-2 to win the 1966 World Cup.

GORDON BANKS Goalkeeper

Won 73 caps and will always be remembered for THAT save against Pele at the 1970 World Cup. Died in Feb 2019, aged 81.

GEORGE COHEN Right-back

One-club man, was made a freeman of Hammersmit­h and Fulham in 2016 and still does ambassador­ial duties for Fulham. Age 80.

JACK CHARLTON Centre-back

Leeds legend who didn’t win the first of his 35 caps until he was 29, just a year before winning the World Cup. Died in July 2020, aged 85.

BOBBY MOORE

Centre-back England’s greatest centre-half, capped 208 times and World Cupwinning captain. The first of the side to die after succumbing to cancer. Died in Feb 1993, aged 51.

RAY WILSON Left-back

Defender turned undertaker, the Yorkshirem­an died in 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Died in May 2018, aged 83.

ALAN BALL Right midfield

Tigerish midfielder who starred with Blackpool, Everton and Arsenal. Died of a heart attack. Died in April 2007, aged 61.

NOBBY STILES Midfield

One of only two Englishmen — Bobby Charlton was the other — to win the World Cup and the European Cup, the latter with Man United. Age 78.

SIR BOBBY CHARLTON Attacking midfield

Jack’s younger brother (left, in action together), winner of 106 caps, sits on Manchester United’s board. Age 82.

MARTIN PETERS Left midfield

Moved into the insurance business after retiring from football in 1983, following 67 England caps. Died in Dec 2019, aged 76.

SIR GEOFF HURST Striker

Still the only man to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final, Hurst made more than 400 appearance­s for West Ham and won 49 England caps. Age 78.

ROGER HUNT Striker

Liverpool stalwart who played more than 400 games for the Anfield club, along with winning 34 England caps. Age 81.
