Set in a vibrant multicultu­ral part of Damascus, this threepart drama by refugee Ghassan Zakaria, recorded with a Syrian and Palestinia­n cast, tells of how the Syrian uprising of 2011 turned into a civil war and its effect on ordinary people and their dayto-day lives.

TUESDAY ISAAC STERN: A 100TH ANNIVERSAR­Y TRIBUTE, CLASSIC FM, 8PM

A whole evening dedicated to the life and work of the great violinist that includes his recording of Mendelssoh­n’s Violin Concerto, his work on the score of Fiddler On The Roof and Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story performed by the Israel Philharmon­ic Orchestra.

WEDNESDAY THINGS MY MOTHER NEVER TOLD ME (... ABOUT LOCKDOWN) RADIO 4, 11PM

Celebritie­s talk to comedian Sindhu Vee about their mothers, and particular­ly if the wisdom they imparted has helped them cope with the pandemic. Here, Man Like Mobeen star Guz Khan tells stories of growing up with a strong matriarch – and living next door to her now.

THURSDAY LAUREN LAVERNE RADIO 6 MUSIC, 8.30AM

Lauren Laverne announces the shortlist of the 12 Hyundai Mercury Prize albums of the year. The previously most nominated acts are P.J. Harvey, Radiohead and Arctic Monkeys, while last year’s winner was the concept album Psychodram­a by rapper Dave. The winner will be announced on September 10.

FRIDAY BBC PROMS 2020: HOLLYWOOD RHAPSODY PROM, RADIO 3, 7.30PM

The ever popular John Wilson Orchestra celebrate ‘unsung’ Hollywood film scores plus a medley of theme songs from nonmusical movies in this 2013 Prom. The work of Erich Korngold, Max Steiner and Franz Waxman from such films as Casablanca (left), A Place In The Sun and Robin Hood is also featured.

SUMMER COMEDY FESTIVAL RADIO 4, 6.30PM

Over the next six weeks a comedian hosts a virtual festival with their favourite performers from stage, screen and literature. In the opening episode Miles Jupp’s choices include fellow comics Simon Munnery, Abandoman and Paul Sinha plus crime-writing queen Val McDermid and cricket commentato­r Alison Mitchell.
