LEAGUE ONE
LINCOLN 0 DONCASTER 1
ELLERY BALLCOMBE was Doncaster’s hero after he saved two penalties at promotion rivals Lincoln. The only goal of the game came after 15 minutes when a long-range effort from Taylor Richards crept beyond Alex Palmer. Jorge Grant and Anthony Scully then had spot kicks saved by keeper Ballcombe.
Rovers boss Darren Moore said: ‘Take nothing away from Lincoln, they played really, really well.
‘But the thing we got right was defending our 18-yard box.’
HULL 1 SWINDON 0
GRANT McCANN’S Hull returned to the top of League One with a win over struggling Swindon. Greg Docherty’s early goal earned the points and McCann called it ‘a big win’.
Swindon’s defeat further compromised the position of manager John Sheridan. His assistant Tommy Wright said they are in a ‘difficult situation’.
SHREWSBURY 2 PETERBORO 0
A HOME debut double from loanee Harry Chapman helped Shrewsbury to a shock win over Darren Ferguson’s high-flying Peterborough.
The hosts’ stand-in manager Aaron Wilbraham praised his side’s all-round performance. He said: ‘I was delighted with the clean sheet, I thought everyone defended as a team.’
SUNDERLAND 2 GILLINGHAM 2
JORDAN GRAHAM’S late strike secured a draw for Gillingham. Aiden McGeady and Grant Leadbitter, who followed up his own missed penalty with a header, gave Lee Johnson’s Sunderland the lead twice. Alex MacDonald also netted for Steve Evans’ visitors.
CREWE 1 IPSWICH 1
AARON DRINAN scored his first senior goal for Ipswich to salvage a point. Paul Lambert’s side, who fell behind to Charlie Kirk’s super finish, had to negotiate the closing minutes with 10 men after Teddy Bishop was red-carded. Lambert said: ‘The sending off was a big issue as Teddy is not like that.’
