BURIED BY THE BERNARDS NEW SHOW TheT lighter sides of the fu funeral businessb

- Mark Cook

Th This reality show has pro proved popular with viewers, alth although some of them thin think that the antics of the Bern Bernard family, who run a fune funeral parlour in Memphis, are s so crazy they must be script scripted. The makers, however, claim otherwise. Make up your o own nm minds by tuning in to see how the clan plans to make the most out of the business of death. A particular favourite among fans is the no-nonsense family matriarch, Debbie (pictured below), who may be just the office manager but runs rings around the business’s funeral director, her son Ryan. It might not sound like an amusing subject, but what they get up to is so outrageous, you can’t help but laugh. Netflix, available now

Behind Her Eyes (Netflix)

There was a bit of a hoo-hah when Sarah Pinborough’s page-turner came out four years ago. It was all about the ending, which divided readers, some miffed beyond belief by a dénouement that makes The Drowning’s recent goofy climax look entirely credible.

So to the plot: divorced mum of one Louise, played by Simona

Brown, bumps into a Scottish man, David (Tom Bateman), in a bar, and there’s a kiss. Next day she finds out that he is her new boss. What are the chances? As few as her then bumping into David’s wealthy and beautiful but clearly troubled wife Adele (Bono’s daughter, Eve Hewson, right). And then it gets messy as Louise starts having sex with David, and also meeting up with Adele – without telling either of them. Eyebrows gravitate even further heavenwards when Adele gives Louise a notebook about dreams to stop her night terrors.

While the book was certainly a propulsive read, the pace here is a little slack, though TV’s visuals of its more outré elements aid comprehension if not, ultimately, belief.

If you have read the book already, it’s fun trying to spot clues to an ending that would cause Miss Marple’s mind, if not her knitting, to unravel. If you haven’t, this weird love triangle will pique your interest.
