A SMALL SELECTION OF YOUR LETTERS...

IN SUPPORT OF COVID VACCINE PASSPORTS...

I THINK vaccine passports are a necessary evil until the pandemic finally passes. We went to our first gig in over 18 months at an indoor venue last week. We received an email from the venue beforehand encouraging us to use the NHS Covid Pass, showing either proof of double vaccination or a negative test.

From what we saw, everyone had their phones out ready to show as we went in and I didn’t hear anyone complaining.

It definitely gave us some sort of peace of mind that everything had been done to keep everyone, including the band, as safe as possible.

AFTER having my life put on hold for the past 18 months, it is important that we all do what we can to get back to normal.

I don’t see why my life should be disrupted any more by selfish people who won’t have the jab. If they don’t want to be vaccinated, that’s their choice, but they shouldn’t be able to have the same freedoms as the rest of us.

If I want to go on holiday to certain destinations, then I have to have the necessary vaccinations before I can go. This is no different.

Isobel Evans

I SUPPORT Covid passports in all public buildings – in theatres, restaurants, cinemas, clubs, cinemas etc.

Thirty years ago I caught the Epstein-Barr virus and was very ill for a long time. Due to chronic pain, fatigue, anxiety and depression, I had to take early retirement. I hear that long Covid symptoms are exactly the same.

Please have your vaccination – and be willing to share your status at public venues.

If you haven’t had a jab, you should be refused entry.

Post-viral conditions can ruin lives. We should all do everything we can not to inflict these things on others.

YES I do support Covid passports. Why should the rest of us suffer because these antivaxxers are trying to prevent people from having the jabs? These are not normal times.

Joyce Hecks

I SUPPORT Covid passports. The majority of people have taken responsibility and had the jab to protect themselves and others. The minority (idiots) should not be allowed to carry on as normal if they are not willing to contribute to protect the public.

The passports should be mandatory in public settings: pubs, restaurants, music venues indoors or outdoors and on public transportation.

Garry Hill

I TRULY believe that Covid passports will be one of the ways that we will climb out of this Covid black hole and get ourselves back on our feet as a country and as individuals.

I don’t think offering cash incentives is the answer. Passports will give freedoms to people who have done their duty for their country and loved ones – a reward if you like – while incentivising others to have it so they can live without restrictions.

Mary McConkey

I DEFINITELY support the use of Covid passports at a gym. At our health club it is entirely optional whether members wear facemasks, socially distance or use hand sanitiser. I have also been told that one of the instructors who takes classes is an anti-vaxxer, which I find morally wrong.

Joe Foley

THERE is definitely a type of person out there who likes to veer from the norm. These vaccine-refusers fit into that.

We have been double-jabbed in our household, but my usually lovely neighbours won’t have theirs. Suddenly they’re experts and know more than professors and doctors who’ve spent decades working in health. They say they could still contract the virus, so there’s no point.

I have realised that no matter how nice and friendly, they are prepared to put me and my family at risk – as well as members of their close family who, ironically, are health workers. It’s certainly made me think who has and who hasn’t got compassion and respect for others today.

... AND THOSE WHO HAVE CONCERNS

I AM double-jabbed but do not support Covid passports. The fact that double-jabbed people can still catch Covid removes the rationale behind them entirely. A short step from here to every pointless bureaucrat demanding ‘papers please’.

Mark Long

I DON’T support Covid passports. Not because I’m an anti-vaxxer, far from it. Most people have used their common sense, and if they are vulnerable (for example, my elderly parents), they have taken the vaccine.

But equally, at the other end of the spectrum, young people feel blackmailed into getting the jab to allow them to go out, get education (attend halls of residence and faceto-face lectures) – and for no personal benefit. This is simply wrong.

We need to stand up to this unquestioning worship of

so- called experts peddling this continued madness.
