City hotels that have an oasis as standard

BOOKING a hotel by a park is a great way to enjoy some greenery while on a busy city break.

From the top-floor rooms of the Generator hotel in Amsterdam, guests can gaze through floorto-ceiling windows across the treetops of Oosterpark.

The walls are decorated with trees and foliage, and it is so bucolic you almost feel you’re sleeping out in the open – yet it’s just a short walk from the main museums and canals in the heart of the city. Doubles from £105 a night (staygenera­tor.com).

In New York, book close to the Strawberry Fields area of Central Park – a dedicated 2½-acre quiet zone rememberin­g John Lennon. Hotel next to Richmond Park, the capital’s biggest at 2,400 acres and home to 600 deer, for £153 a night (harbourhot­els.co.uk).

In Valencia, Spain’s third-largest city, the Blanq Carmen Hotel, a hip hideaway, overlooks Jardin del Turia, a marvellous, six-milelong park that’s great for exploring by bike. Doubles from £70 a night (blanqhotel­s.com).

Atlantic, a stay at the Mantis hotel in the capital of Jamestown is great as you can pop across the street to Castle Gardens, a tiny park with tropical plants and trees that date to Napoleon’s time. B&B from £189 a night (mantiscoll­ection.com).
