MATT EDWARDS banished the proverbial manager of the month hoodoo as Forest Green returned to the top of the table. Crowned manager of the month for August, Edwards lauded his side after striker Jamille Matt banked his fifth goal of the season to provide the brightest moment in a turgid encounter. He said: ‘The lads were exceptiona­l, it was a really hard game — Northampto­n are good at what they do and ask lots of questions of us.’

GARY BOWYER heaped praise on his Salford players after they snatched victory at the death. The tie looked destined to end goalless, before Matty Lund arrived late to a deep corner in the 90th minute to win it. Bowyer said: ‘I’ve got to give an enormous amount of credit to the players because they were terrific again.’

SWINDON 1 PORT VALE 2

BEN GARNER admitted his Swindon team deserved nothing from the game. Ben Garrity struck a brace, with Tyreece Simpson levelled proceeding just after the break. Garner said: ‘I can’t be too critical, but we didn’t have our usual zip and we were not as bright as we have been and we haven’t competed as much as we have been.’

LEYTON ORIENT 4 OLDHAM 0

KENNY JACKETT admitted his Leyton Orient side ‘applied themselves incredibly well’ after hammering Oldham. Aaron Drinan, Tom James, Theo Archibald and Harry Smith grabbed the goals. Jackett said: ‘We didn’t allow Oldham a way back into the game and it’s good to see a side finish strong.’

ROBBIE STOCKDALE said this win against Tranmere was the most satisfying of his short tenure in charge of Rochdale. Danny

Cashman fired the only goal of the game after coming off the bench. He said: ‘Tranmere will be up there challengin­g at the end of the season. It’s the most pleasing win I’ve had so far given the standard of the team.’

CRAWLEY boss John Yems spoke of his relief to get a win after a late goal from Nick Tsaroull. Tom Nichols’ goal was cancelled out by Jon Mellish. He said: ‘We have

been knocking on the door.’

TRANMERE manager Micky Mellon hailed a valuable win as Tom Davies headed a dramatic late winner to sink Hartlepool. ‘We have had a good week and being honest, we still need to score more goals and create more chances,’ admitted the home boss.

MATT TAYLOR praised his Exeter side for a ‘complete performanc­e’. A brace from Matt Jay either side of the break put the visitors in command, before Joshua Key and Timothee Dieng ensured the win.
