Sterling joins the 100 club

RAHEEM STERLING said he is honoured to join the list of players who have scored 100 Premier League goals.

Sterling reached the milestone with his match-winning penalty against Wolves yesterday — having now scored 82 for City and 18 for Liverpool.

‘It is a lovely achievement,’ said the 27-year-old England international. ‘There are some fantastic players in that list and I’m really honoured to be in it now.’

Sterling is the 32nd player to get into the 100-club with Alan Shearer topping the all-time list on 260 goals.

City boss Pep Guardiola added his own congratulations for a player who has struggled to find a regular firstteam place this season having contributed to all of City’s previous trophies under the Spaniard.

‘At his age, 100 goals is a lot,’ said Guardiola. ‘Congratulations to him and the team. Raheem has always been important but players have to understand the highs and lows in their career.

‘I don’t have any excuses sometimes for players not being in the team but

Raheem is always aggressive in attack and committed with his defensive work.’

Sterling grabbed the ball to reach his milestone despite missing his last three penalties.

Guardiola said: ‘Riyad Mahrez is our best taker by far. Ilkay Gundogan is also good but he is struggling with his back and not played so well in the last two games.

‘They were off the field and Raheem showed the personality to take it and score. This is a value I appreciate.’

Goalkeeper Ederson also kept his 100th clean sheet in all competitions for City.

He then said he hopes England winger Sterling will stay at the club, despite being worried about a lack of game time.

‘I’m very happy for him to reach 100. It was a great goal. He’s reaching his best performance for us. I hope he’ll continue to be important for us,’ said Ederson.
