My guess is that the SNP have gone along with this for one simple reason. If they had come out against it the Tories and their supporters in the mainstream media would have started an unending attack on the SNP for turning down promises of huge amounts of cash, for being against economic growth etc etc.

Agreeing to go along with the freeport idea was the lesser of two evils and in the knowledge that anything proposed by Westminster is unlikely to come to fruition in any case.
