MOONE WILL SHINE AGAIN

- By Sam Elliott

AFTER 118 goals in the 257 games he turned out in Hampton & Richmond Borough colours, you would have thought we’d already seen the best of what Charlie Moone has to offer.

Especially after last season when it became clear guaranteed goals were not enough, the striker spending pretty much the entire campaign warming the bench and feeding off scraps as a sub.

But anyone writing off Moone had better think twice. After ending six goal-laden years at the Beveree, he has been quickly snapped up by Slough Town.

A Ryman Premier champion, he has stepped back down to Step 3 to give his career a kick start.

And the former Woking man says you had better believe you’ll be hearing more and more of him next season.

Excited

Moone told The NLP: “To leave on such a high in winning the league was a nice way to say goodbye. I am extremely proud of my goalscoring record with Hampton. The many friendships I have there mean that I’ll always be a fan.

“That said I am not naive and you need to keep looking forward. At 27, it is a great time for me to go again and have a fresh start at a new club. I am certainly excited.”

Moone’s face just didn’t fit last season as Beavers boss Alan Dowson went with a 4-3-3 formation – spearheaded by the athletic and powerful Nicke Kabamba, he was supplemented by two quick wingers. No room for a poaching king.

Moone works better in a two-man attack and his message is simple: expect the goals to flow again in the Southern League.

“The management are fantastic and really went out of their way to show me Slough was the right place for me to play my football,” he added. “I hope this is the start of a successful era.”
