ELLIOTT GIVES HOLS A MISS

-

ELLIOTT WHITEHOUSE was so keen to play for England C that he cancelled a holiday to Cyprus with his mate.

The 22-year-old Nuneaton Town midfielder was supposed to be enjoying the sun this week before he got the call of duty.

So instead he sold his holiday to his friend Tom’s mum and dad so he could pull on the Three Lions’ jersey.

“I’ve already been to Newquay but I was supposed to be going to Cyprus with my mate – I had to cancel!

“I booked it last year so there was nothing I could do about it until I found out about this. You don’t know when an opportunity like this will come along again so you’ve got to make the most of it.

“We tried to get someone else to go with him but couldn’t get it sorted so his mum and dad have gone instead. There’s plenty of time for holidays in years to come.

“I want to play as high as I can and follow in the footsteps of players who have played for this team.”

The call-up caps a good season for the former Notts County and York City man, who took four awards away at Boro’s end of season do.

“This tops off the season for me,” he said.“Being part of the experience is something I’m over the moon with.

“It’s going to be a big game and I’m here to do a job.

“If I’m picked then great, if not I will be ready from the bench.”
