TULIPS BLOSSOM WITH GAY RETURN

-

ANDREW GAY has returned as chairman of Spalding United – just six months after stepping down from the role. The long-time Tulips supporter replaced Chris Toynton as chairman in May 2015 before resigning in January due to increased work commitments.

However, he has been persuaded to return by the club’s board and he is back at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field alongside vice-chairman Eddie Reeve.

“I have to say that Spalding United has been in my blood for more years than I care to remember and it was with a heavy heart that I had to relinquish the reins last season,” Gay said.

“However, in life one has to prioritise family and income and I felt that I could not dedicate the amount of time the position required when I had to step down earlier in the year.

“That said, the board were very persuasive in laying out their plans and asking me to return.

“When considering my position I just had a sense that the Tulips are about to enjoy one of the most important chapters of their long and illustrious existence, both on and off the field and at all levels in the coming months and years.”

Meanwhile, Spalding boss Dave Frecklington has received a double boost after securing the signings of striker Bradley Barraclough – scorer of 17 goals for Buxton last season – and winger Chris Hamilton ahead of the new Evo-Stik NPL Division One South campaign.

Scot Hamilton, who joins from neighbours Stamford, will also assist Frecklington and his assistant Chris Rawlinson with coaching.
