DOUBLE FOR YOUR MONEY

- Tony WILLIAMS

MOST clubs have at least two goalscorers on whom they rely for match winning sharpness in front of goal. We have already featured the clubs blessed with three, four, five and even six goalscorers, who claimed at least ten goals last season.

However, the majority of clubs have two main marksmen, many of whom develop a very useful partnership.

This list shows the 60 partners who scored at least 30 goals for their clubs last season, and you will notice how the Northern Premier League (7) and Isthmian League (5) have provided more than half the top 20 successful pairs.

East Thurrock United and Bognor Regis Town both enjoyed high-scoring seasons, with United rewarded with promotion from the Isthmian play-offs.

Fans must have had a wonderful season as East Thurrock’s Sam Higgins scored his 45 in 28 games and Bognor’s Jason Prior, 42 in just three fewer.

Some partnerships are dominated by one striker, such as Boston United and St Neots Town, but it makes no difference. They all count!

Twin strikers with similar scoring records can also inspire each other by seeing who can finish with most goals, such as Stefan Payne, who finished as top scorer for Dover Athletic with 23 goals, just two more than his colleague, Rickie Miller.

Rushall Olympic’s Luke Benbow (22) and Alex Reid (20) were also close, while Salford City’s James Poole, with 20 goals, just pipped colleague Danny Webber by one goal.
