The Non-League Football Paper

Why no inquiry? I Havant a clue...

-

THOUGH there has been considerable correspondence and articles about Hereford and Salisbury both being allocated to the Southern League South & West, and of the abortive attempt by Cinderford Town to refuse promotion, I’m surprised that nobody seems to have queried the allocations of relegated clubs Havant & Waterlooville and Hayes & Yeading.

Despite Havant & Waterlooville and its predecessor clubs having been associated with the Southern League in earlier seasons and similarly Hayes & Yeading and its predecessors with the Isthmian League, the current amalgamated clubs have been allocated to a league with which neither has been previously associated.

Has there been a slip-up somewhere within the FA administration who compiled the 201617 league structure, whereby they got these clubs’ ‘name boards/slips’ muddled and then placed them in the wrong leagues?

Havant & Waterlooville are clearly a Southern team and, in my view, should have been placed in the Southern League, while Hayes & Yeading are a London area team and should have been placed in the Isthmian League.

Has neither club queried their 2016-17 placement and is it too late for them to be switched and take over each other’s fixtures in the ‘correct’ league now that the new season’s fixtures have been published?

I just hope that Havant & Waterlooville have not been content to accept their placement in the belief that it is easier to gain promotion from the Isthmian than the Southern League, just as Yeovil Town tried to do, unsuccessfully, in the 80s and 90s. DEREK GRANDIN, Exeter
