FOXLEY’S THE TOP PICK FOR CHERRIES

- By Sam Elliott

DARREN FOXLEY could go from the Ryman North to the Premier League after landing a trial at AFC Bournemouth.

The 18-year-old Soham Town Rangers winger has been tipped to impress the south-coast club after starting the season superbly.

He spent last week looking to earn a deal and may find out in the coming days if he has done enough to impress the Cherries coaches.

Foxley was let go by Dagenham & Redbridge in the summer when the club were forced to cut costs after losing their Football League status.

Soham’s joint manager Robbie Nightingale believes he could be about to bounce back from the blow in style after catching the eye in the opening two months of Rangers’ season.

He said: “Darren has been absolutely outstanding for us – he’s got every chance of doing well down at Bournemouth.

“He has left West Ham’s academy aged 16, and then Dagenham’s in the summer – but since coming to the club in the close season he has played every game and showed what he can do.

“He deserves a chance as he is exceptionally talented. We really think highly of him and we all believe he can take his game to a whole new level.”

This isn’t the first time a Soham player has been given the chance to have a shot at the big time.

The club’s former youngster Connor Wood signed a deal with Premier League champions Leicester City in the summer after impressing the Foxes on trial.

Soham, meanwhile, have signed Gambian leftback Pa Saikou Kujabi in a week of comings and going at Julius Martins Lane this week.

Kujabi is joined by Ross Elsom and Shawn Richards, while Victor Adeboyejo and Kieran Bailey have left.
