TOINBRIDGE A 4 HEREFORD 2

- By Jim Rowe

A FEW pundits might have had this down as a potential cup upset, but Tonbridge Angels deservedly eased past Hereford with relative comfort.

Angels were in front after two minutes. Nathan Elder was fouled on the edge of the box and Luke Allen struck the ball past a stranded Alex Harris in the Bulls goal.

Seven minutes later the Kent side doubled their advantage when clever play between Craig Dundas and Elder put Nick Wheeler clear on the left flank and the winger cut inside and made no mistake from close range.

As the half came to a close, the visitors started to exert a little more pressure, with the main threat coming through Tristan Plummer, but the Angels defence held firm.

The next goal was always going to be crucial and it went to the home side when Dundas converted Jack Parter’s cross from the left.

There was a glimmer of hope for the Bulls when John Mills scored on 66 minutes after good work by Plummer.

But the match was put beyond doubt on 70 minutes when Luke Blewden was put through by Wheeler and found the net from 20 yards.

Jamie Edge’s strike for Hereford on 88 minutes was merely a consolation and the Angels had the luxury of winning despite having a Blewden strike disallowed for alleged pushing and two strong penalty appeals that were turned down.
