AFC SUDBURY 1 LEATHERHEAD 2

- By Kalvin Sargeant

LEATHERHEAD belied their recent form to go away from Suffolk with all three points, giving manager Jimmy Bullard his first victory.

However, the controversial Bullard added to his reputation by getting himself sent to the stands with 17 minutes left, after a penalty decision went against his team.

Yet he barely had time to take his new seat when Leatherhead scored the winner to seal their first away league win of the season and move out of the bottom four.

Leatherhead had a great early chance when Tom Bradbrook broke clear and Suds keeper Marcus Garnham made great lefthanded save.

The Tanners took the lead in the 21st minute when Evan Lopes took advantage of a defensive slip and found room to shoot home.

Sudbury had two chances towards the end of the half. Craig Parker fired wide then Stefan Mallardo headed over.

The hosts livened up after the break and levelled on 56 minutes when Rob Eagle clipped a ball into the box and Liam Wales fired home.

Controversy reigned on 73 minutes after Adam Tann tackled the Tanners’ Callum Davies in the penalty area, the referee waved play on and a disgusted Bullard invaded the pitch to remonstrate.

Bradbrook, also on the sideline having been substituted, took off his shirt and threw it on the pitch. He was sent off and Bullard sent to the stands.

However, the visitors scored the decisive goal on 77 minutes when Davies got the better of Jack Wilkinson and slotted the ball wide of Garnham.
