FA CUP HAS SIX APPEAL FOR ACE ADAM

- WELLING UNITED v WHITEHAWK By Joshua Peck

HE’S scored at Anfield but Welling striker Adam Coombes couldn’t split between netting at the Premier League club and scoring in the FA Cup. Maybe that’s because he bagged six in the world’s greatest cup competition! Coombes netted a double hat-trick as the Wings thrashed Swindon Supermarine 7-1 last weekend before being drawn to face fellow National League South side Whitehawk in next week’s round qualifying tie. Those six of the best made it seven for the former Chelsea Academy man after he also netted in the Kent club’s tie against Whyteleafe. But Coombes has history in knockout competitions. The 25-year-old scored an equalising goal on Merseyside for Notts County three years ago in the League Cup, the Magpies eventually beaten in extra-time and Coombes recognised the importance in all of his strikes. He told The NLP: “There’s always a special feeling when you play in a cup. Any cup. I had a good experience scorfourth ing at Anfield against Liverpool but every cup game means something. “I don’t rank them. Scoring a double hat-trick in a game is always going to be special and to do it in the FA Cup does make it that bit more special. But scoring in front of a sold out crowd at Anfield, on Sky, is special as well. Unsurprisingly I’ve never scored six in a match so it was a new experience but a good one! “It doesn’t matter who you are playing against, you still have to be focused every game. It was one of those days where it felt like every chance I had went in.”
