ROMAIN’S ON TARGET AS SPORTS EARN POINT

- By Mark Stillman

BATH C 1 EASTBOURNE 1

FOLLOWING an explosive start to proceedings, Bath City and Eastbourne Borough shared the spoils in an otherwise largely forgettable contest at Twerton Park.

The Romans made the perfect start inside two minutes when Naby Diallo’s cross towards the near post was nodded in by Ryan Broom.

Eastbourne replied within five minutes. A long ball over the top was left by Jack Batten, allowing Sports’ leading scorer Elliott Romain to steal in and smash the ball past a helpless Max O’Leary from 12 yards.

Following this lively opening the match settled down, with Romain seeing an effort from distance deflected wide.

The lack of action continued into the early stages of the second half with each side cancelling each other out. The introduction of Marvin Morgan livened up City’s attack, as he stroked the ball into the side netting moments after his arrival.

It took until the closing minutes for any further meaningful chances to be created.

Jamie Taylor wasted the visitors’ best opening in the second half when he tamely placed a shot too close to O’Leary. The same player was denied by the stopper moments later.

Morgan then sidefooted wide following a goalmouth scramble as both sides had to be content with a point.
