ST IVES T 1 FROME T 1
ST IVES skipper Charlie De’ath was the hero as his last minute equaliser saw Saints end their five-game losing streak in the league with a hard-earned point in a poor game against fellow strugglers Frome Town.
The match started slowly with both sides unable to string moves together on a hard, bumpy pitch.
The first opportunity of note fell to the visiting Robins on 19 minutes as Kris Miller drove in a cross from the left hand side that Mitchell Page got on the end of, but failed to hit the target from close range.
But the visitors did claim the lead eight minutes before the break as Dan Cleverly flicked on Jon Davies’ corner and Connor Roberts fired home at the back post.
The Saints’ best opportunity of the first half came seconds before the break as Justin Leavers got on the end of a Mark Coulson cross, only for Frome goalkeeper Kyle Phillips to pull off an amazing one-handed save to deny the young striker his first Ives goal.
St Ives huffed and puffed a lot in the second period and despite a number of positive substitutions by home manager Ricky Marheineke, it looked like the Robins were going to take all three points back to Somerset.
That was until De’ath hammered home a loose ball after Scott Sinclair’s 30-yard thunderbolt had struck the crossbar right on 90 minutes.
