IT’S DEJA VU FOR COUNTY THANKS TO MAX MAGIC

- By Chris Pratt

STOCKPORT 2 SALFORD C 1

MAX CARTWRIGHT’S goal 14 minutes into his Stockport County debut condemned Salford City to their second defeat at Edgeley Park in as many Saturdays.

The away side displayed the most endeavour in the early stages and the Hatters were caught unaware by a quick free-kick.

Jordan Hulme broke the line and laid off to Scott Burton, who set up Richie Wellens to accurately side-foot home from the edge of the box.

Shortly after, City’s Richie Allen’s goalbound shot was tipped around the post by Ben Hinchliffe.

Salford were bossing the game until the halfhour when Courtney Meppen-Walters found space on the left and stroked a sublime cross for Gary Stopforth to poke a right-foot shot past Jay Lynch.

The Ammies started the second half as brightly as they did the first, but Michael Nottingham, Allen and Hulme scuppered good chances and they were soon made to pay.

Lloyd took a quick corner and this time County caught City unaware. Kayodi Odejayi made a nuisance of himself and the ball fell to sub Cartwright, who found the net.

That goal proved to be the winner. County battled hard and found a way to win while Salford will rue several missed chances.
