SOLE STRIKE EARNS NASH VICTORY IN DOUR GAME

- By Jon Stephenson

NUNEATON T 0 CURZON A 1

A FIRST-HALF goal from Niall Cummins was enough to give Curzon Ashton all three points in a match which neither side came away from looking good.

The only difference between the sides, in what was a terrible afternoon of football, was that Curzon scored when they were on top.

After a stagnant start, the visitors struck first in the only real action of the opening 45 minutes.

The goal was welltaken when it came, netted by Cummins in the 23rd minute, but it was out of place in a half dominated by slow buildup play and a lack of urgency from either side.

The Curzon number nine was allowed to be alone in the Boro box, where he was found with a chipped through-ball and he finished smartly around the onrushing Christian Dibble.

The goal failed to inject life into proceedings as Nuneaton floundered while the Nash were content to let their hosts enjoy most of the possession.

The second half somehow started worse than the first as both sides served up a dour dose of football, with skill and tempo severely lacking.

Dibble was forced into two routine saves but, aside from those, chances were at a premium as the match descended into a midfield battle out of which neither could emerge victorious.
